Abstract
भारत-नेपाल तराई क्षेत्र भौगोलिक, सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक एवं आर्थिक दृष्टि से विशिष्ट क्षेत्र है। यह क्षेत्र हिमालय की दक्षिणी तलहटी तथा गंगा के मैदान के मध्य स्थित होने के कारण प्राकृतिक संसाधनों, कृषि, जल संसाधनों और जैव विविधता की दृष्टि से महत्त्वपूर्ण है। प्रस्तुत शोध-पत्र का उद्देश्य भारत-नेपाल तराई क्षेत्र में निवास करने वाली अनुसूचित जनजातियों की सामाजिक-आर्थिक दशा, आजीविका, शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य, रोजगार, आवासीय स्थिति तथा विकास की संभावनाओं का भौगोलिक विश्लेषण करना है। अध्ययन का क्षेत्र मुख्यतः सरयूपार क्षेत्र में स्थित भारत-नेपाल तराई के उन भागों पर केंद्रित है, जिनमें उत्तर प्रदेश के बहराइच, श्रावस्ती, बलरामपुर, सिद्धार्थनगर, महाराजगंज तथा कुशीनगर जनपद सम्मिलित हैं। मूल अध्ययन में इस क्षेत्र का कुल क्षेत्रफल लगभग 9,775.59 वर्ग किलोमीटर तथा 2011 की कुल जनसंख्या 1,55,63,341 बताई गई है। अध्ययन में प्राथमिक एवं द्वितीयक दोनों प्रकार के आँकड़ों का उपयोग प्रस्तावित है। प्राथमिक आँकड़े सर्वेक्षण एवं साक्षात्कार तथा द्वितीयक आँकड़े जनगणना, सरकारी विभागों एवं प्रकाशित स्रोतों से प्राप्त किए जाते हैं। अध्ययन से स्पष्ट होता है कि शिक्षा, भूमि, रोजगार, स्वास्थ्य, ऋणग्रस्तता, परिवहन एवं संचार जैसी समस्याएँ जनजातीय विकास को प्रभावित करती हैं। साथ ही शिक्षा, कौशल प्रशिक्षण, कृषि सुधार, लघु उद्योग, बाजार व्यवस्था, स्वास्थ्य सुविधाओं और सरकारी योजनाओं के प्रभावी क्रियान्वयन से विकास की पर्याप्त संभावनाएँ मौजूद हैं।
